Crafts and Community Gatherings at a Temple in Uji

Shingaji Kongobenzaiten is a temple in the Shinmei district of Uji, south of Kyoto City. The market takes place in its Shakado Hall alongside a temple festival.

Kokohana Marche has reached its tenth edition. The organizers announce 22 participating stalls, seven of which are joining for the first time.

The program includes simple crafts, ring toss, lucky draws, wreath-making and accessory workshops. Food stalls, balloon art and dance performances add further variety.

By bringing a community market together with a temple festival, the organizers create a shared space for worshippers, residents and families. It is an example of a religious venue also serving as a neighborhood gathering place.
