Why was a handmade market created inside a Kyoto townhouse?

The idea behind Be-Kyoto's market was to protect makers' creations from rain and wind. An indoor townhouse gallery offered a setting where handmade goods could be displayed regardless of sudden weather changes.

The venue also hosts workshops, giving visitors an opportunity to participate in creative work rather than simply purchase finished objects.

Traditional Japanese candy sculpture is a particularly distinctive experience. Warm syrup is shaped into flowers and animals using scissors and fingertips. The process connects hands-on craftsmanship with the atmosphere of a historic townhouse. That is why both the building and the candy-making technique deserve attention.
